Do you have a vision but lack the funding? Nearly every non-profit struggles to attain significant funds. With the bombardment of options that seem out of reach, many ministries suffer to creatively grasp the resources available, and as a result their influence is stifled. While many organizations tap into the market of grantwriting to win funding, the task still daunts others. However, the amount of foundation-based giving is continuing to increase. In 2007, The 72,000 grantmaking foundations nationwide increased their giving to $42.9 billion, according to Foundation Growth and Giving Estimates: Current Outlook (2008 Edition). Of those 72,000 foundations, there is nearly 100% certainty that someone is interested in funding at least some aspect of your organization’s unique goals. With thousands of federal and foundation-based grants available and cumbersome legal regulations, the grant seeking process can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, securing grants could be the difference between breaking the bank and breaking even. So where do you begin? And how does your ministry’s proposal compete against the tens of thousands of other requests?
Attending a grant writing workshop may be just what your ministry needs in order to grasp the resources available and learn how to formulate a compelling proposal for individual, federal, or foundation-based funding sources. Most grant writing workshops are designed both to enlighten beginners and provide new insights for advanced grant writers. Experienced grant writers share processes and formulas that have been proven to work. They provide keys to the resources you will need to effectively present your proposal and compete in the marketplace.
As you seek funding, there are three important steps you must consider. First, you must gather information and define your goals so that you are able to locate foundations that may be supportive of your programs. Second, you must consider why your organization addresses unique needs and why those needs are important to resolve. Finally, you must develop a strategy for engaging their attention and support.
Success for obtaining a grant is marked by careful research and strategy. Workshops will help you better formulate and articulate your ideas throughout the development process. You will learn to develop new strategies in order to persuade and present based on your vision. You will have the opportunity to network with peers. You will locate funding direction for your project. And you will discover tips for writing proposals that are realistic and compatible with current grant criteria. Whether working as an individual or as a team through the funding process, you must discover how to successfully manage research, relationships, and strategies for approaching foundations.
Many non-profits lack the funds to hire a professional grant writer and will instead invest in the partial services of a professional for direction and editing. Instead, sending one of your staff members to a grant writing workshop could prove to be an invaluable asset to your ministry, as you are able to allocate your resources most efficiently and give more generously to the Kingdom.
